Dutchmen Defeat Mohawks 11-1

The Albany Dutchmen took advantage of 2 rain delays at Shuttleworth Park and timely hitting to cruise past the Amsterdam Mohawks 11-1 on Tuesday Night.

Justin Decker (Dominican) went 4-5 with 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored for the Dutchmen, and Trace Tyre (Ole Miss) added 2 hits and 3 RBI’s. Robbie Spagnola (Hudson Valley C.C.) picked up his first hit of the season in the loss.
In the top of the 1st, the Dutchmen opened the scoring on an RBI groundout by Trace Tyre (Ole Miss). The Mohawks would respond in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI groundout by TJ Collett (Kentucky) to knot the game at 1.

The game would stay that way until the 5th, when an RBI single by Brad Gneiting (Rice) would put the Dutchmen up 2-1.

Albany would break it open in the 6th inning on a 2-run RBI single by Justin Decker, an RBI fielder’s choice by Gneiting, and a run scored by Decker on a wild pitch, making it 6-1, Dutchmen.

Albany would expand their lead to 8 in the top of the 8th on an RBI double by Gneiting and a 2-run RBI double by Tyre.

The Dutchmen would add two more in the 9th on another 2-run RBI double, and it would stay that way till the end of the game.

The winning pitcher for Albany is Jeff Lonnecker (Trinity (Texas)), who provided 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. The loss for the Mohawks goes to the starter Ben Anderson (Binghamton).

The Mohawks are off Wednesday, and will travel to Cantine Memorial Veterans Field to take on the Saugherties Stallions, first pitch at 7:05 PM. The Dutchmen will travel to Donovan Stadium Wednesday to take on the Utica Blue Sox, with the first pitch slated for 6:30 PM.
