Griffin Wins 1,000th Game as Mohawks Split Doubleheader

The Glens Falls Dragons (13-26) took game one of a doubleheader Friday night at East Field, defeating the Amsterdam Mohawks (29-11), 2-1.
 
Amsterdam took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a single by Eric Rivera (Florida Atlantic), driving in John Valente (St. Johns) who had drawn a two-out walk.
 
The Dragons tied the game at one each, and Anthony Vaglica (LIU Post) walked with the bases loaded to bring in Jared Drizin (Bucknell) for the go-ahead run.
 
The winning pitcher was Brandon Budlong (Johnson & Wales), and Thomas Lane (Boston College) took the loss on the mound.
 
Game one of two ended 2-1 Dragons.
 
GAME 2:
 
The Glens Falls Dragons (13-27) and the Amsterdam Mohawks (30-11) split the doubleheader Friday night with a game two win by Amsterdam, 6-5.
 
Amsterdam pioneered the game’s scoring early in the first with one run capitalizing on an error, and another sent in from a single by Anthony Gonnell (South Florida). 
 
The Dragons answered in the bottom of the second with RBI hits from Anthony Butler (St. Lawrence), Brian Uliana (Rider), and Pheonix Hernandez (Southern NH), bringing the score to 3-2 Glens Falls.
 
The Mohawks responded in the top of the fourth with back-to-back singles from John Valente (St. Johns) and Jake Mueller (Wake Forest) that set up a three-run homerun from Eric Rivera (Florida Atlantic), making the score 5-3 Amsterdam.
 
Glens Falls tied the game later that inning, as Cullen Cicotte (William Peace) scored on an error, and Dalton Ney (Lee) crossed the plate on a sac fly by Hernandez.
 
Amsterdam took the lead once again early in the fifth after a double from Mueller scored Dustin Skelton (Mississippi St.), bringing the score to 6-5 Mohawks.
 
The inning, and the game, ended at that score. 
 
The winning pitcher was Joe LaSorsa (St. Johns), and Andrew Aikins (Skidmore) took the loss on the mound.
