By Adam Agresta

Box Score

The Saugerties Stallions took advantage of the Amsterdam Mohawks inconsistent pitching, scoring 9 runs on 13 hits to grab an East division win from the East-leading Amsterdam Mohawks by the score of 9-6 on Saturday night at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam.

Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI’s, a double and a home run, and Luke Pettersen (Minnesota) went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI’s to lead the Stallions.  Dustin Skelton (Miss. St.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Mohawks.

The Stallions wasted no time in jumping on the Mohawks starter Morgan McSweeney (Wake Forest) for 3 runs in the top of the 1st, with 1 run coming on a Clay Simmons RBI single, and the other 2 runs coming on a Tyler Kelder 2-RBI double to give Saugerties an early 3-0 lead.

The Mohawks would get two runs back in the bottom of the 1st, as Eric Rivera (Florida Atlantic) scored on a wild pitch, and Dustin Skelton plated a run on an RBI single to make it 3-2, Saugerties.

The score would stay stagnant until the top of the 4th, when Tyler Kelder took McSweeney deep for a solo home run, and Luke Pettersen (Minnesota) slapped an RBI single back up the middle to make it 5-2, Stallions.  The Mohawks would get 1 back in the bottom half of the inning on a Julian Gallup (Niagra) sac fly, cutting the Stallions lead to 2 runs.

The Stallions scratched across another in the 5th on a Jesse Uttendorfer (NJIT) RBI single to make it 6-3, but the Mohawks would shrink that lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the 6th on a John Valente (St. Johns) RBI single and a run scored on a wild pitch by Julian Gallup.

The Stallions scored another run in the 7th on a bases loaded walk to Jeff Palczewski (Buffalo) to make it 7-5, but the Mohawks would once again cut the Stallions lead to just a run on a Jake Mueller RBI groundout in the 8th, making it 7-6, Saugerties.

However, Saugerties would finally get enough insurance in the 9th, plating 2 runs in the top of the 9th on a Luke Pettersen 2-RBI single to make it 9-6, sealing the door shut on a Mohawks comeback.

The win goes to Brady Peterson (Stetson), who came on to pitch 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Stallions.  The loss is charged to the Mohawks starter Morgan McSweeney.

The Mohawks will be off Sunday before traveling to Veterans Memorial Field in Little Falls to take on the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs in a battle of the top 2 teams in the East division.  The Stallions will travel to Siena Field Sunday to take on the Albany Dutchmen, with the first pitch slated for 5:05 PM.
