DiamondDawgs Win Rain Shortened Game, 3-0

Box Score

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. – Mother Nature can be cruel or it can be kind. Just ask the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs (25-14), who have been the recipient of her benevolence more than once this season.

It happened again on Monday, as the Diamond Dawgs managed to get an official game in before the rains hit, snapping a six-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over the Amsterdam Mohawks.

With the victory, Mohawk Valley regains second place over the Albany Dutchmen by .007 of a point. The Dutchmen were idle on Monday, as their doubleheader with the Adirondack Trail Blazers was rained out.

The Diamond Dawgs drew first blood just four batters in. An RBI single by Russ Olive (Chelmsford, MA/UMass Lowell) managed to get past the right side of the infield brought home Tim Zeng (Lumberton, NJ/Fairfield). A sacrifice fly by Dan Deely (Sonoma, CA/Sacramento State) in the second with two out brought home Ben Porter (Newton, MA/Columbia) and extended the Mohawk Valley lead to two.

Austin Pollack (Harrison, NY/Hofstra) extended the Diamond Dawgs' lead to three in the fifth with an RBI single tbat made it through the second-third gap to score Alexis Monge-Rodriguez (Pembroke Pines, FL/Barry).

Luckily for Mohawk Valley, the clouds opened up and delayed the game in the bottom of the seventh with the Diamond Dawgs up 3-0. After about 10 minutes of waiting, the game was called and the Diamond Dawgs picked up the win.

Douglas Molnar (Toms River, NJ/Wagner) picked up the win for Mohawk Valley, who snap a six-game losing streak. Levi Abrahamson (Mountain Home, ID/Treasure Valley CC) got the save, Mathieu Gauthier was saddled with the loss for Amsterdam.

Mohawk Valley returns to Veteran's Memorial Park tomorrow for a game with the Utica Blue Sox. Amsterdam heads back to Shuttleworth Park for the first half of a two-game home stand, starting tomorrow with a game against the Saugerties Stallions.
