Box Score
The Amsterdam Mohawks used stellar pitching from Peyton Plumlee (Miss St.), Brooks Knapek (UMass) and Ryan Falls (Marshall) to snag a 4-1 win in their 1st home PGCBL contest of the 2018 season at Shuttlesworth Park in Amsterdam.
The Mohawk’s starting pitcher Plumlee surrendered just 1 run on 3 hits in 5.0 innings of work, walking 1 and striking out 7. Knapek and Falls followed up with 4 no-hit innings, with 8 combined strikeouts and the only baserunner coming on a walk by Knapek in the top of the 6th.
Matt Padre (Manhattan) went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI’s, and Colin Kelly (Union) went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI’s in the Mohawks win. Dillon Good (Lock Haven) went 1-for-3 with a HR for the Stallions in the loss.
In the top of the 2nd, Austin Good took Plumlee deep to left center to give the Stallions a 1-0 lead, their only of the game. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Mohawks would respond with a Matt Padre RBI single to tie it at 1, and a Colin Kelly 2-RBI single to take a 3-1 lead.
Amsterdam would secure an insurance run in the bottom of the 5th on a Padre RBI fielder’s choice to make it 4-1, Mohawks, and that is all that’d be needed to secure the victory.
The win goes to Plumlee, while Zach Strickland (Georgia Southern) is saddled with the loss. Falls gets the save for his 2 innings of no-hit ball to close it out.
The Mohawks will be off Sunday and Monday before hosting another contest at Shuttlesworth Park to face off against the Glens Falls Dragons, with 1st pitch slated for 6:35 PM. The Stallions will travel to East Field tomorrow to take on the Glens Falls Dragons, with 1st pitch set for 7:05 PM.
