Box Score

Behind solid pitching and timely hitting, the Amsterdam Mohawks recorded a win against the Glens Falls Dragons 9-2 in PGCBL play. It was the second PGCBL home game of the 2018 season and brought the Mohawks up to 2-1 in league play and 2-0 at Shuttleworth Park.

It was a team effort with 8 different Mohawks recording at least one RBI. The Mohawks consistently circled the bases, reaching in 7 of the 8 innings they came to bat.  They also spread out the scoring over 4 innings.  The pitching was efficient, starting with a strong 5 innings by Zane Stephens (Miss St). Giving up no runs while striking out 5 for his first start of the season. The bullpen pitched with a lead the entire way, going for 4 innings pitched and added on another 6 strikeouts.

Elvis Peralta Jr. (Marshall) batted lead off and also led the team with 3 runs scored, going 2 for 5 with a walk. Michael Ludowig (Wake Forest) was the only Mohawk with 2 RBI, getting them with one swing of the bat. He finished 2 for 5. Nick Kondo (UAlbany) had a solo home run in the loss and finished 1 for 3.

The Mohawks got off to a hot start scoring 3 in the first inning, with the first run of the inning coming from a hit by pitch off the back of Chris Lanzilli(Wake Forest). In the 5th, a sterling defensive play by right fielder Ludowig stopped the Dragons from scoring at a play at the plate. The Mohawks would respond in the bottom of the inning scoring 2 to take a 5-0 lead.

The Dragons scored 1 in the top of the 6th off of a Pheonix Hernandez (Southern NH) double.

Amsterdam would never look back as they hit three straight doubles in the 7th inning and scored three runs and secured the victory.

The win goes to Zane Stephens, with the loss going to Dragons’ starter. The Mohawks and Dragons both drive up tomorrow to Glens Falls to play another game between the two teams. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM at East Field. The Mohawks return home to Shuttleworth Park Thursday for a 6:35PM first pitch against the Capital City Reds.
