Box Score Game 2
In a two-game set at Shuttleworth Park, the Amsterdam Mohawks won game 1 over the Saugerties Stallions, but lost game 2. The Mohawks won a continuation of a game from June 24th which was suspended due to rain with a final score of 11-4. After a 30-minute break, the Mohawks ended the night with a loss, the final score was 5-4.
Noah Searcy (Georgia Southern) led the way for Saugerties in game 1, going 2-2 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Shane Muntz (Wake Forest) and Elvis Peralta Jr. (Marshall) would share the honors of most productive hitters for game 1 for the Mohawks. Shane Muntz went 3-5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI. Peralta Jr. Would go 1-3 with a home run, but also stole 2 bases and drew 2 walks.
The first game took 16 days to finish after a rain delay suspended the last game, Shane Muntz was the spark that lit an offensive fire for the Mohawks as they put together a 7 run 8thinning that was the run support the Mohawks needed after blowing a 4 run lead that they took from June 24th into tonight. The Mohawks used the long ball in both halves of the game. 3 of the 4 first half runs were scored in the third inning from a Shane Muntz solo home and an Elvis Peralta Jr. two run home run.
After the approximately two week long break in the middle of the bottom of the 4th inning, it was the Stallions that came out swinging, scoring 4 runs and tying it up 4-4. The runs were all earned, with Noah Searcy using 2 doubles to collect 3 RBI.
The Mohawks responded quickly, as Shane Muntz led off the 8th inning with a solo home run, his second of the game. They would then score 6 runs, all with 2 outs off a series of errors and clutch hits. This would bring the final score to 11-4 and that would be the final score.
Ryan McLinskey (Seton Hall) was credited with the win in the first game, and Logan Teske (Angelo St) would take the loss.
Saugerties’ game 2 starter John Clayton (UAlbany) would have the best pitching performance of either game as he would go 6 innings, only letting up 3 runs. However, the most surprising pitching performance of the night was by Cole Barr (Indiana) who usually plays in the infield, pitched 3 innings of scoreless baseball.
Joe Genord (USF) went 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs scored during the second game. Tanner Allen (Miss St.) went 2-3 with an RBI.
The second game of the night was only scheduled for 7 innings and was a back and forth affair. Amsterdam jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but would do it through small ball. A Tanner Allen single would score Joe Genord. Genord would score again 2 innings later when the new arrival Justin Foscue (Miss St.) who arrived with Allen today would hit an RBI single. Shane Muntz would score the other run in the 4th bringing the score to 3-0 Mohawks.
Saugerties would score 2 in the 5th inning, when the Mohawks got into trouble with the bases loaded but would limit the damage after an excellent play by Richie Barrella (Manhattan) who was playing first base. Jordan Kozicky (Minnesota) would hit an RBI double to tie the game at 3.
Cameron Comer (Virginia) would hit a tie-breaking home run in extra innings for Saugerties to take the lead 4-3. Even as the odds looked slim, after a long day behind the plate playing catcher for Muntz, he would hit a game tying double in the bottom of the inning.
Dilon Lifrieri (Arkansas) would then hit a ground rule double in the top of the ninth as Saugerties would push the Stallions in front again. This time the Mohawks could not respond, and the game was final
Trey Hinkle (Bloomsburg) got the win and Nick Debrino (Canisius) took the loss. The final was 5-4 Saugerties. The Mohawks and Stallions will play again tomorrow, except next time it will be in Saugerties at Cantine Veterans Memorial Field for a 7PM start. The Mohawks return home to face the Albany Dutchmen on Thursday. The game will start at 6:35.
