Dutchmen Win Wild Game, 12-10

The Amsterdam Mohawks struck first but quickly fell behind as the Albany Dutchmen won at Shuttleworth Park by a score of 12-10. After going up one, the Mohawks would have to climb back from 5 runs down, which they did before letting up more runs in the 8th and 9th to finish the game.

Brandon Seltzer(Fairleigh-Dickinson) would lead the way for the Dutchmen. He went 4-5 with 4 runs scored and a home run. Lucas Dunn(Louisville) also had a nice night at the plate. He went 3-6 with 3 runs scored.

For the Mohawks, Jake Hammon (Moorehead St)was the best hitter in an offensive night as he went 4-4 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Michael Ludowig(Wake Forest) would do well as he went 2-4 with an RBI, a run scored, and 2 walks.

The Mohawks were the first to score, in the bottom of the 2nd . Designated hitter, Richie Nizza(FAU) hit a single to score Justin Foscue (Miss St).

The Mohawks would come right back to bring the score to 4-3 Dutchmen after Justin Foscue hit a 2-out single with the bases loaded to score Michael Ludowig.

Albany would then take a commanding 5 run lead over two innings as they would score 2 in the 5th off solo home runs by Brandon Seltzer and Ubaldo Lopez (Dartmouth). They then scored 2 more in the 6th after multiple defensive miscues and some good baserunning.

The Mohawks would be held scoreless until the bottom of the 7th inning where they would load the bases with an Elvis Peralta Jr. (Marshall) triple and 2 walks. Jake Hammon hit a single to score one and keep the bases loaded. Cole Barr (Indiana) would then be hit by a pitch to bring the score even closer. Richie Barrella (Manhattan) would then come up to bat and hit another single, with the bases still loaded and only one out. After the second pitching change of the inning, Michael Ludowig hit a ball hard to the second baseman Nick Estrella would miss the catch to bring the Mohawks within one. A Tanner Allen (Miss St) walk would force in the game tying run before Elvis Peralta Jr. would hit into a run producing ground ball out in his second at-bat of the inning to take a 9-8 lead over the Dutchmen.

The Dutchmen would score again in the top of the 8th using a hit batsman and a sacrifice fly by Jerry Huntzinger (Seton Hall) to pull ahead by 1 with a score of 10-9. That lead was not long lasting as the Mohawks responded to once again tie the game at 10-10 off a sacrifice fly by Cole Barr.

However, it was the Albany Dutchmen who would finish the game in the lead, scoring 2 in the 9th to take a 2-run lead to bring the score to 12-10.

That score would hold as the final score was 12-10. The Albany Dutchmen would get the win over the Amsterdam Mohawks. Nick Grabek (Fairfield) was the winning pitcher while Ryan Falls (Marshall) took the loss. These two teams will have a rematch on Saturday at Siena Field to play another game. The start time is 5PM. The Mohawks do not return home until Tuesday when they face the Oneonta Outlaws at Shuttleworth Park. The start time will be 6:35.
