By Justin Cohen

Box Score

In a close game at Shuttleworth Park on Saturday night, the Amsterdam Mohawks beat the Saugerties Stallions to clinch the season series. The game was back and forth all night as the Stallions scored first, and then the Mohawks took a 3 run lead. They eventually would give up the lead and retake it, with the final score being X-Y.

Zack Durant (Herkimer CC) had a solid start, going 6 innings, giving up 2 runs, 1 of which was earned. He also tacked on 8 strikeouts against 5 hits, 2 walks, and a hit batsman. Joe Genord (USF) went 2 for 3 with a walk and a home run and 3 RBI. The 3 run home run, his 6th of the season and 13th of his Mohawks career which gives him a share of the all-time lead, tied with Ed Charlton (2012-13). Cameron Comer (Virginia) went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI on the night for the Stallions in the loss.

The night started off with the Stallions taking the lead in the top of the 1st. An RBI single by Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) brought in a run to take a 1-0 lead before the Mohawks even had a chance to take a swing. The Mohawks would eventually respond with some power as Shane Muntz (Wake Forest) and Joe Genord (USF) were able to put the Mohawks up 4-2 after 3 innings.

The Mohawks would put up one more in the 6th before the Stallions scored 3 in the top of the 7th . All of the runs were unearned, as there were 3 errors in the inning, but there were 2 RBI off the bat of Cameron Comer as he singled and then 2 runs scored on an error.

Amsterdam would retake the lead in the bottom of the 7th, using a 1 out RBI double off the bat of Justin Foscue (Miss St.). Saugerties would threaten in the 8th, getting a runner on third with no outs, but relief pitcher Ben Rhodes (Herkimer) was able to keep the Stallions off the board for the inning. Ryan McLinskey (Seton Hall) would let up a 2 out home run to Tyler Kelder bringing the score 7-6 Amsterdam and that would be the final as the Mohawks win this one at home.

The win goes to Nick Debrino (Canisius), while the loss goes to Jason Antalek (Iona). Ryan McLinskey came in to get the save. Saugerties returns home tomorrow to play the Dutchmen Cantine Veterans Memorial Field. The Mohawks play tomorrow at Glens Falls before being off Monday. They return home on Tuesday to play the Elmira Pioneers at Shuttleworth Park. The start time will be 6:35PM.
