7-Run Third Lifts Mohawks Past Stallions, 11-1

It was a rout in favor of the Mohawks, as they beat the Saugerties Stallions 11-1 on Saturday night at Rao Family Stadium.

The Mohawks scored two in the bottom of the 1st on a couple of walks, and aggressive baserunning from Rook Ellington and Dalton Reese. However, it was the third inning that was key for the Mohawks. They scored seven runs on five hits, getting some help from Saugerties’ starter, Tyler Germanowski. Germanowski lost his command in the 3rd, walking 2, hitting 1, and throwing a wild pitch allowing Julio Cortez to score. The Mohawks tacked on a couple of more runs throughout the game, including a solo homerun from J.D Mundy in the 6th, his 1st of the season.
 
On the defensive side, Mohawks pitchers were dominant, surrendering just 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 11. Blake Dockery, a righty out of Catawba Community College started the game for the Mohawks. He threw 4 innings, allowing 1 hit, 3 walks while striking out 6. Dylan Smith and Dale Stanavich tossed 2 innings in relief, before turning the ball over to Danny Watson who finished the game.
 
It was a tough day for Saugerties all around. They were only able to plate 1 run which came on a Sacrifice Fly from Mitchell Sanford in the 5th. Tyler Germanowski surrendered 9 runs (7 earned) on 5 hits, 5 walks, striking out 3. Austin Cole came in for relief and was able to limit the Mohawks to just 2 runs through 5.2 innings. The Mohawks will resume action on Monday against the Oneonta Outlaws at 7:05.
