Mohawks Avenge First Loss With 15-3 Win Over DiamondDawgs

Coming off a walk-off loss to the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs the night before, the Amsterdam Mohawks avenged their first loss of the season with a 15-3 win over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Rao Family Stadium on Saturday night.

Amsterdam had 18 hits in the game as 5 players recorded a multiple hits. Geordon Blanton had 5 hits, including a double, 4 runs scored and stole 2 bases from the leadoff spot. Michael Turconi went 3-for-5 with a double, 3 runs scored and stole a base. J.D. Mundy went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Max Costes, in his first game with the Mohawks was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. 

The Mohawks got on the board in the first inning as Geordon Blanton scores on a sac-fly by JD Mundy. Mohawk Valley then tied it at 1 in the third as Kyle Johnson homered to lead off the inning.

That would be as close as it would get as the Mohawks pulled away with 12 runs in the next 3 innings.

Kevin Jimenez hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third to give the Mohawks a 5-1 lead. In the fourth, J.D. Mundy hit a 2-run double and later scored on a Mitch Hartigan sac-fly to make it 8-1. In the fifth, Michael Turconi hit a 2-run double, J.D. Mundy hit an RBI single and Max Costes hit a 2-run home run to make it 13-1.

After a scoreless sixth, Max Costes ripped a 2-run double to give Amsterdam a 15-1 lead.

Mohawk Valley scored a pair of unearned runs in the eighth to make it 15-3.

Blake Dockery picked up the win, improving to 2-0 on the season. He went 5 innings, allowed 1 run on 5 hits and 1 walk with 5 strikeouts. Will Gambino tossed a scoreless sixth with 2 strikeouts. Cole Daniels pitched the seventh and eighth and allowed 2 unearned runs. Danny Watson finished it off in the ninth as he struck out the side in order.

Joe Papeo took the loss for Mohawk Valley as his record falls to 1-1. He allowed 8 earned runs in the first 4 innings.

The Mohawks improved to 6-1, while the DiamondDawgs fell to 5-3.
