On Sunday afternoon the Mohawks improved to 9-2 as they defeated the Watertown Rapids 7-3 at the Duffy Fairgrounds.
Watertown jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as James Krick hit a 2-run home run off Mohawks started Blake Dockery.
The Mohawks first cracked the scoreboard in the fourth as a pair of errors lead to Geordon Blanton scoring. Drew Kendall then homered in the fifth as the Mohawks and tied the game at 2.
Amsterdam briefly took the lead in the seventh as Rook Ellington scored on an error, but Watertown tied back up a 3 in the bottom of the inning Dylan Sanchez scored on a Mohawks error.
In the eighth, a Watertown error kept the inning alive and Geordon Blanton was credited with a steal of home to give the Mohawks a 4-3 lead.
In the ninth, Blanton delivered the knockout blow as he hit a 3-run home run to put the Mohawks up 7-3.
Danny Watson (1-0) was credited with the win as he pitched the final 2.1 innings and only allowed 2 hits with 3 strikeouts. Starter Blake Dockery went the first 4 and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Rye Gunter pitched a scoreless fifth and Dale Stanavich allowed 1 run in 1.2 innings.
Marc Maestri (0-1) took the loss as Watertown fell to 7-5.
Max Costes kept his hot bat going as he added 3 hits to his league leading .458 batting average.
The Mohawks are off on Monday and return to action on Tuesday at Rao Family Stadium as the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs come to town for a 6:35 game.
