Stallions Stop Mohawks Streak

The Mohawks eight game winning streak came to an end Sunday night at Cantine Field as the Saugerties Stallions won 4-3.

Saugerties was first to score as Hayden Travinski (LSU) lead off the second inning inning with a triple and scored on a single by Max Cotier (Virginia). Later in the inning Jake Skrine (Indiana) would increase the lead to 2-0 as a single would score Blake Crossing (Dartmouth).

The Mohawks would tie it up at 2 with a run in the third and fourth innings. Geordon Blanton (Marshall) would score on a Dalton Reese (Tennessee) ground out in the third to make it 2-1. In the fourth, Max Costes (Maryland) hit his fifth double of the season and scored on a Kevin Jimenez (New Mexico State) single.

The Stallions would take the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth as Dillon Lifrieri (Arkansas) drove in Nolen Hester (Wofford) with a base hit to make it 3-2.

Sam Zayicek (High Point) drew the Mohawks even again in the sixth as he scored on an error, but the Stallions would again retake the lead in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) hit a double that scored Jake Skrine and put Saugerties up 4-3.

Jeff Hayner (Niagara) picked up his first win going 1 inning in relief. Henry Funaro (UMass Lowell) earned his fifth save of the season by pitching the final 2 innings and recording 3 strikeouts.

Travis Lane (Boston College) started for Amsterdam, but didn't factor into the decision. He went the first 4 and allowed 3 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Dale Stanavich (Herkimer) took the loss, dropping his record to 0-1 as he allowed 1 run in 2 innings of work. Chris Barraza (New Mexico State) and Danny Watson (VCU) each threw a scoreless inning for the Mohawks.

Amsterdam dropped to 14-3 with the loss while the Stallions got back to .500 with a 7-7 record.

The Mohawks are off on Monday and return to Rao Family Stadium at Shuttleworth Park on Tuesday to face the Albany Dutchmen at 6:35. Tuesday will be Free Ice Cream Night sponsored by Stewart's, Mojo's Birthday, Burnt Hills, Scotia and Sharon Springs Night, Vet's Tuesday sponsored by Patriot Asset Management and Wing Night.
