In a game that started a half an hour late and featured three different home plate umpires before the fifth inning concluded, the Amsterdam Mohawks defeated the Geneva Red Wings Thursday night by a score of 16-4, improving their league leading record to 16-3.

The Mohawks started slow as starter Bryce Brock and the defense gave up three runs in the top of the first inning and then gave up another run in the fourth to fall behind 4-0.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the fifth that the Mohawks scored their first run of the game. J.D. Mundy got things started with a 2-run homerun to dead centerfield to cut the deficit to 4-2. Kevin Jimenez then singled home Mitch Hartigan to make the score 4-3. With no outs recorded in the fifth Geordan Blanton and Maxwell Costes then hit back-to-back homeruns to give the Mohawks the lead 6-4, a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the night. The offense wasn’t done there however as J.D. Mundy came back up to the plate in the fifth and hit a Grand slam, giving him two homeruns and six RBIs in the inning.

In the sixth the Mohawks scored five runs to extend the lead to 15-4. The highlight of the inning was Dalton Reese’s two-RBI triple.

The Mohawks would tack on one more in the seventh to make the score 16-4.

The Mohawks bullpen pitched an outstanding game not allowing a single run after the fourth inning. Dale Stanavich earned the win. The Mohawks next game will be Friday night as they take on the Albany Dutchmen at Rao Family Stadium.
