Bullpen Falters in 6-4 Loss to Saugerties

The Mohawks are coming off back-to-back losses for the first time this season. On Sunday, the Saugerties Stallions orchestrated a come from behind win and defeated the Mohawks 6-4.

In the third inning, J.D. Mundy hit a 2-run home run for the Mohawks and the Stallions scored a run on a Mitchell Sanford sac-fly as the Mohawks went up 2-1.

The Stallions tied the game at 2 in the fourth on a Tyler Kelder home run. In the fifth, J.D. Mundy hit and RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch as the Mohawks took a 4-2 lead.

Trip Lockhart started and went the first 4 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. In the fifth, Travis Lane took over and gave up a lead off double to Fritz Genther who later scored on a Mitchell Sanford base hit to bring the Stallions within a run, down 4-3.

Rye Gunter took over on the mound for the Mohawks in the sixth, he quickly struck out the first 2 batters, then a base hit and a hit batter put 2 men on for Hayden Travinski who hit a 3-run home run to put the Stallions up 6-4.

The score would stay that was as Gunter pitched a scoreless eighth and Dale Stanavich pitched a scoreless ninth and the Stallions pitching staff would only allow 1 hit to the Mohawks over the final 4 innings.

J.D. Mundy and Dalton Reese each recorded 2 hits for the Mohawks. The Mohawks fell to 17-5 as Rye Gunter took his first loss, dropping him to 1-1. The Stallions improved to 14-9 and have won 7 games in a row. Danny Kapala got the win out of the bullpen as he moves to 3-1. Henry Funaro picked up his 6th save as he struck out the side in the ninth.
