The Mohawks were dealt a taste of their own medicine on Friday as they fell to the Utica Blue Sox by a score of 12-4 at Murnane Field.
Mohawks starter David Harrison was in trouble in the first inning as a single and 2 walks loaded the bases with just 1 out. Josh Hatcher grounded into a fielder’s choice as a run scored and Harrison was able to escape the inning by limiting Utica to just 1 run.
After a scoreless second, the Blue Sox score a run on a wild pitch and Josh Hatcher drove in Robbie Young with a base hit as Utica took a 3-0 lead.
The Mohawks offense started to come to life in the fourth inning. Mitch Hartigan hit a leadoff double and Michael Turconi followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Turconi then stole second and Hartigan scored on an error by the shortstop. Johnny Decker then drove in Turconi as the Mohawks trailed 3-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, Utica went up 4-2 as Tyler Simon hit an RBI double that scored Dewey Roden.
In the fifth inning, Dalton Reese reached on an error and scored on a Landon Jordan base hit as the Mohawks pulled to within 4-3.
Will Gambino replaced Harrison in the fifth and had a rough inning. Brenton Phillips lead off with a single, Josh Hatcher followed with a double and Phillips scored on an error in center. Two batters later, Luis Deleon hit a 2-run home run that put Utica up 7-3.
The Mohawks got another run back in the sixth as Bryce Brock singled and advanced on an error. Matt Padre followed with a base hit and Brock scored on an error by the first basemen to make it 7-4.
Danny Watson pitched the final 3 innings for the Mohawks and things came unhinged for the Mohawks in the sixth as 5 runs scored for the Blue Sox on 2 hits, 2 hit batters and 3 errors. The Blue Sox lead 12-4 after the sixth and neither team would score after that.
The Mohawks fell to 21-6 despite out hitting the Blue Sox 12-10. The Blue Sox improved to 15-11 and while also committing 6 errors to the Mohawks 4.
David Harrison took the loss as he fell to 1-1. Ray Pacella got the win as he pitched 4.1 innings from the bullpen and improved to 2-0.
Dalton Reese hit 3 hits, a double and a run scored for the Mohawks, while Josh Hatcher had 3 hits, a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored for the Blue Sox.
