On Wednesday night the Amsterdam Mohawks and Saugerties Stallions played a double header at Shuttleworth Park to make up for a game earlier in the season that was postponed due to rain.

In game one Dylan Smith (Alabama) made his first start of the season and pitched very well throwing five scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out nine Stallions.

Smith would have plenty of help from the offense, especially from Max Costes (Maryland), who tallied six RBIs in the game including RBI groundouts in the first and third innings.

Costes wasn’t done there however as he hit two home runs in the game; one a three-run shot in the fifth, and then a solo shot in the sixth.

D.J. Poteet (Wake Forest) also added a two-run double in the fifth as the Mohawks went on to win game one 8-0.

In game two the Mohawks sent out Mitch Hartigan (Florida Atlantic) to the mound who also made his first start in a Mohawks uniform. Hartigan went three and two thirds innings while allowing two runs and striking out three.

Max Costes was again the hero on offense in this one as he hit home runs number 10 and 11, setting the Mohawks single season mark.

While Costes was the big story the rest of the Mohawks were hitting Stallion pitching all night long as Amsterdam took game two by a score of 16-2.

The Mohawks are now 31-9 on the season and hope to lock up the number one seed as they head towards the postseason, which starts next Thursday, August 1.
