Mohawks Drop Doubleheader to Saugerties

The Mohawks dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Saugerties Stallions by scores of 3-2 and 4-0 on Friday.

In Game 1, Saugerties scored 1 in the first on a wild pitch by Mohawks started Nick Massa.

The Mohawks only 2 runs of the day came in the second inning when DJ Poteet hit an RBI double to score Kevin Jimenez and Poteet then scored on a passed ball to give the Mohawks a 2-1 lead.

The Stallions tied it at 2 in the fourth as Will Allocca hit a 2-out single off Nick Massa.

Drew Wilden pitched the sixth and allowed a 2-out double to Fritz Genther that gave the Stallions a 3-2 lead.

Nick Massa pitched the first 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk with 5 strikeouts. Drew Wilden took the loss and fell to 0-2 as he allowed 1 run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

The second game was scoreless until the fifth inning. Rye Gunter started and only pitched the first inning. Frank Arnold pitched the next 3 innings and only allowed 2 hits and 1 walk with 1 strikeout. 

K.C. Howe entered in the fifth inning and allowed a leadoff walk to Max Cotier, he would steal second, move to third on a single and score on a Dillon Lifrieri sac-fly.

The Stallions scored 3 in the sixth as Carlo Mancillas hit an RBI double and Mitchell Sanford hit a 2-run double as the Stallions took a 4-0 lead.

K.C. Howe took the loss and fell to 0-1. The Mohawks are now 31-11 while the Stallions improved to 23-18 and have clinched a playoff spot with the win in the first game.
