The Mohawks opened the second round of the playoffs against Albany on Friday night at Shuttleworth Park, and defeated the Dutchmen 8-4 in the first of a three game series.
Nick Massa started on the mound for the Mohawks and went 4 1/3 innings allowing three earned runs while striking out two.
The Mohawks continued their first inning dominance in this one as they scored two runs in the frame aided by a throwing error from Albany.
Amsterdam would score again in the third, fourth, seventh, and eighth innings, with the big play being a Max Costes homerun in the seventh.
Dale Stanavich came in in relief of Massa and picked up the win allowing just one run and striking out eight Dutchmen in 3 2/3.
The Mohawks will again take on the Dutchmen on Saturday at Siena College with hopes to advance to the championship round.
