Box Score Game 1 Game 2
Cameron Collett homered in both games as the Mohawks got back on track Saturday with a doubleheader sweep over the Glens Falls Independents by scores of 7-1 and 4-2. Collett had 3 hits and 3 RBI between both games.
Jason Savacool was electric on the mound in the first game as only allowed 1 hit over 3.1 innings while racking up 7 strikeouts and not allowing any walks.
The Mohawks got on the board in the bottom of the first as Reilly Hall hit a solo home run.
The game would stay 1-0 until the fourth inning. In the fourth, the Mohawks had runners on first and third. Brian Hart stole second and the ball got away on the play, Reilly Hall scored on the resulting error to make it 2-0.
Amsterdam used the long ball in the in the fifth as Tyler Cannoe hit a solo home run and Cam Collett hit a 2-run home run to put the Mohawks up 5-0.
Glens Falls scored their lone run in the sixth inning. Evan St. Claire led off the inning with a double off Sam Bello. Dale Stanavich then replaced Bello on the mound and gave up an RBI single to Brad Hipsley to make it 5-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, Nick Kondo led off with a single. Brian Hart drove in Kondo with a triple, then scored on a Joe Novenche single as the Mohawks took a 7-1 lead.
Dale Stanavich pitched the last 2 innings to end the game. Jason Savacool picked up the win and Mike McCulley took the loss.
Glens Falls jumped out to an early lead in the second game. Evan St. Claire led off the game with a double off Mohawks starter Teddy McGraw. Later in the inning with 2 on and 2 out, Peter O’Toole had a base hit to left field that scored 2 runs. The Mohawks tried to get the out at the plate but after that failed, an alert Joe Novenche threw the ball to second basemen Cam Collett and got O’Toole out at second to end the inning.
The Mohawks roared back in the bottom of the first. Cam Collett led off with a home run. After a hit batter and a walk, Ben Rhodes hit an RBI single to tie the game and Brian Hart scored on a passed ball to give the Mohawks a 3-2 lead.
Both pitching staffs locked it down after the first inning. Teddy McGraw, John Mikolaicyk, Brendan Disonell and Will Van Beusekom combined to throw a 1-hit shutout the rest of the way with 17 strikeouts. McGraw and Mikolaicyk each combined for 6 strikeouts. On the other side, Zack Vavasour locked it down after the first inning and did not allow the Mohawks to score as he pitched through the fifth.
In the sixth, Nick Kondo manufactured a run by himself. He led off the inning getting hit by a pitch, ended up on second after the ball was thrown away on a failed pickoff attempt and then stole third. This all happened with Brian Hart at-bat and he finished it off with an RBI single to put the Mohawks up 4-2.
Teddy McGraw got the Game 2 win and Will Van Beusekom earned the save. Zack Vavasour took the loss for the Independents.
