Andrew Pedone and Cameron Collett were the catalyst of the Mohawks offense on Saturday. They combined for 9 hits, 2 home runs, 2 doubles, 5 RBI and 5 runs scored in the Mohawks sweep of the Albany Dutch by scores of 5-1 and 5-2.
Cam Collett was batting leadoff and Andrew Pedone was behind him in the two-hole. It didn’t take this tandem long to start producing as Collett lead off the game with a single and Andrew Pedone followed with an RBI double to put Amsterdam up 1-0.
Albany responded right back in the bottom of the first. Jason Savacool started for the Mohawks and seemed to be in command as he struck out the first two Dutch batters. Then he issued a 2-out walk to Ryan McGee and Adam Zebrowski made him pay with a 2-run home run to put the Dutch up 2-1.
That would be all the offense for the Dutch as Savacool and the Mohawks pitching staff only allowed 2 more hits and held Albany odd the scoreboard the rest of the way.
In the fourth, Nick Thomas, playing in his first game as a Mohawk, hit the solo home run to tie the game at 2.
The Mohawks took a 3-2 lead in the fifth as Jeffery Brennan scored on a wild pitch.
Amsterdam added 2 insurance runs in the seventh. The Collett, Pedone combo struck again as Collett singled, stole second and scored on another Pedone double. Pedone later scored in a Reilly Hall single as the Mohawks went up 5-2.
Jason Savacool started for the Mohawks but didn’t factor into the decision. He went the first 3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Sam Bello picked up the win as he went 3 scoreless, allowing 1 hit an no walks with 4 strikeouts. Matt Gonzales earned the save pitching the seventh and setting the Dutch down in order with 1 strikeout.
Anthony Amoroso started for the Dutch but also didn’t factor in the decision. He allowed 2 runs over 4 innings with 6 hits, no walks and 7 strikeouts. Depicelli took the loss for Albany as he allowed the run in the fifth.
In the second game, Andrew Pedone quickly put the Mohawks up 1-0 with a first inning home run.
The Dutch answered right back in the bottom of the first with as Adam Zebrowski hit a double to score Caleb Doyle.
Cam Collett put the Mohawks up for good in the top of the third with a 2-run home run to give Amsterdam a 3-1 lead.
In the sixth, Albany got into a bases loaded jam and a wild pitch allowed Joe Novenche to score. Jeffery Brennan followed with a ground out that brought home Nick Thomas as the Mohawks went up 5-1.
Mohawks pitching collected 15 strikeouts and allowed just 4 hits. Dale Stanavich started and picked up the win. He went the first 3 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Brendan Disonell went 1 inning with 2 strikeouts, Von Baker went 1.1 innings with 3 strikeouts and Will Van Beusekom went the last 1.2 innings with 4 strikeouts.
Sal Fusco took the loss for the Dutch as he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 3 innings.
On the day, Andrew Pedone was 5-for-8 with 2 doubles, a home run, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Cameron Collett was 4-for-8 with a home run, 2-RBI, 3 runs scored and stole a base. Newcomer Nick Thomas went 3-for-8 with a home run, a double and 2 runs scored.
