The Mohawks were firing on all cylinders Tuesday night as they defeated the Glens Falls Dragons 9-0 at Rao Family Stadium.
Amsterdam came right out of the gate in the first inning as Bray Touchstone hit a 2-run single and Danny Perez hit an RBI single to give the Mohawks a 3-0 lead.
In the second, Alex Junghans led off the inning with a double and he scored on a Will Cowan hit a sac-fly to put the Mohawks up 4-0.
The fifth inning started with Bray Touchstone hitting a solo homer to left. That opened the flood gates as Danny Perez and Wes Walker each singled. Jon Young, Jr. followed with an RBI single to drive in Perez. Sebastian Harden hit a 2-run double to drive in Walker and Young. After a pitching change Alex Junghans hit his second double of the game as Harden scored, capping off a 5-run inning as the Mohawks took a 9-0 lead.
The Mohawks pitching staff was the other storyline of the game. Ariston Veasey started and went the first 3 innings, striking out 6. Joey Gecewicz went the next 2, striking out 4. Zak Spurrier struck out 4 over 2 innings. Cai Cheng En struck out 2 in the eighth and Brad Curtis struck out 1 in the ninth. Doing the math on that, those five pitchers combined on a 2-hit shutout, allowing 4 walks and struck out a staggering 17 batters.
The Mohawks moved to 21-6-1 with the win as they will now face the Saugerties Stallions in the next 3 games. The Dragons fell to 9-18 and will face the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
