Stanavich Signs With Giants

Amsterdam's own Dale Stanavich has signed with the San Francisco Giants.

Dale played for the Mohawks from 2017-2020 and is one of three Mohawks to record 100 total strikeouts. The Marlins then selected the lefty from Rutgers in the eighth round of the 2022 MLB draft.

Rising through the Marlins ranks, Stanavich began the 2025 season in Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos. He dominated as their closer and had a 1.29 ERA with 6 saves and a 2-1 record with 41 strikeouts in 28 innings. The Marlins then promoted Dale to Triple-A and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at the end of June where he struggled against the higher level of competition and finished the season with a 5.46 ERA at that level.

Following spring training, the Marlins released Stanavich, but he was quickly picked up by the San Francisco Giants. The Giants assigned Dale to their Arizona Complex League (ACL) at their spring training facility in Scottsdale, Arizona where he will look to regain the form from the first half of last season and then resume his journey to the Major Leagues.

The Giants have recently been on a spree of collecting former Mohawks players. Last month they acquired 2019 Mohawk Dylan Smith in a trade with the Detroit Tigers and placed him in Triple-A with the Sacramento River Cats. 2011-12 Mohawk and Broadalbin-Perth grad Matt Gage signed back with the Giants last July after originally being drafted by them in 2014 and is currently off to a hot start with the big-league club in the bullpen. 2021 Mohawk Dylan Carmouche was selected by the Giants in the 15th round of the 2023 MLB Draft and was promoted to Double-A and the Richmond Flying Squirrels to start the season. Finally, 2002 Mohawk Hunter Pence, who was a catalyst for the Giants World Series victories in 2012 and 2014 has joined the broadcast crew and is now an analyst for Giants games on NBC Sports Bay Area.
