Antico Signs with Rockies

By Jon Sargalis

It was announced on Monday that 2018 Mohawks outfielder Mike Antico has signed a 2-year minor league deal with the Colorado Rockies.

Antico played with the Mohawks in the summer of 2018 from St. John’s University. He hit .254 in 43 games with 3 home runs, 14 RBI, 35 runs scored and stole 17 bases.

After transferring to Texas, the St. Louis Cardinals selected Antico in the 8th round of the 2021 MLB draft. He spent 6 years within the Cardinals minor league system with a .260 average, 61 home runs and stole 181 bases.

Playing in Triple-A for the Memphis Redbirds last season, Antico hit .279 with 7 home runs, 57 RBI, 53 runs scored and stole 21 bases.

After a rough start to the season, the Cardinals released Antico after 6 games, but he only had to wait 6 days before getting a call from the Rockies. The speedy outfielder will look to become the 23rd Mohawk to receive the call to the Major Leagues and the second from the 2018 team, as his Mohawks teammate Justin Foscue (Mississippi State) hit his first Major League home run for the Texas Rangers last week. Should Antico get the call, he would be the second former Mohawk to play for the Rockies, as 1994 Mohawk Tim Christman pitched for Colorado in 2001.
