Last time the Mohawks faced off against the Dragons, they exploded for 17 runs on 18 hits in a decisive win. On Tuesday night, the Dragons’ offense countered with eight runs on seven hits en route to a narrow 8-7 victory.
Dragon’s starting pitcher Billy Kind kept Amsterdam quiet, tossing four one-hit innings. Glen Falls had hit just one home run in their first seven games, but on Tuesday night, they doubled that total, as Tyler McKillop and Anthony Lino each hit home runs.
Early on, both starting pitchers managed to work their way out of trouble. Kind narrowly avoided giving up two home runs, as both balls hooked left of the foul pole. Mohawks pitcher Sam Falace walked three batters through the first two innings as he slowly settled in.
The Dragons opened the scoring in the fourth as Anthony Lino roped an RBI double into the left field corner. With two outs and two strikes, McKillop launched a three-run moonshot, quieting the Mohawk crowd.
Amsterdam’s offense was ice cold to start the game. They managed just one hit through the first four innings. Brian Carrothers changed things in a hurry, tattooing a ball over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 4-2. Glen Falls quickly snagged their four-run lead back, plating two runs on an RBI groundout and a wild pitch.
The Mohawk fans got something to cheer about in the seventh, when Jordan Perry mashed one home run into the right field skydeck. Glen Falls continued to mash as Lino crushed a no-doubt home run to extend the lead to 8-3.
Amsterdam attempted to mount a comeback in the late innings as Anthony DeCesare roped a double right by the third base bag to make the score 8-5. Perry kept the inning going as he ripped a two-run single back up the middle, cutting the lead to 8-7.
Leadoff man Tyler Correa came up in the eighth with the tying run on third, but Dominick Weidtman slammed the door, getting a strikeout in the dirt to end the threat. Once again in the ninth, the Mohawks got the tying run in scoring position.
Weidtman pumped his fist towards the Dragons’ dugout as he got DeCesare to ground out to end the game. Amsterdam entered Tuesday on a 28 game winning streak against Dragons. This marks the first time the Dragons defeated since June 22, 2022.
The Mohawks will look to bounce back on Wednesday as they host the Utica Blue Sox. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
