Amsterdam’s Lefty Bats Launch Three Home Runs in Ninth Straight Win
The Mohawks' bats continued to stay red-hot, blasting three home runs and tallying 12 hits, helping them earn their ninth straight win. Amsterdam defeated the Stallions 16-3 en route to their sixth mercy rule win of the season.
Lefties Robert Melo, Aiden Dill, and Taylor Belza each connected for home runs in the early innings as the Mohawks ran away with an early 8-1 lead. On the mound, Amsterdam held the Stallions to just four hits, tied for their lowest mark of the season.
Nick Croce got things started for the Stallions, launching a no-doubt home run way over the left field wall. Melo and Dill answered with two solo bombs in the second inning, for their sixth and fourth home runs of the season, respectively.
The home run party continued in the third inning as Belza joined the party with an opposite-field laser, making the score 4-1. Melo and Tyler Figeroua drove in runs to extend the lead to 7-1. In the third inning, the Mohawks had nine straight batters reach base safely, helping them score eight runs in the frame.
Brandon McCraine and Dill smoked back-to-back RBIs into the left-center gap to blow the game open at 12-1. Amsterdam added four more runs in the fourth to snag a 14-1 advantage. The Stallions got two runs back in the fifth as Drew Freeman crushed a solo home run to left field.
Mohawks pitcher Saxon Roberts finished off the mercy-rule victory in striking out six straight batters over his two innings of work as Amsterdam rolled to a 16–3 win in seven innings.
The Mohawks will travel to Utica on Wednesday night to take on the Blue Sox. Amsterdam has dominated the season series, holding a 4–0 advantage. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m.
