Amsterdam’s Pitching Steals The Show in 11th Straight Win

The Mohawks pitching staff earned their first shutout win of the season in a 15-0 win over Boonville. Kiernan Kostowski and Ian Bruce led the way, combining for five shutout innings.

Amsterdam threw four pitchers that helped keep the Lumberjacks bats quiet at the plate. The staff only surrendered three hits and struck out nine batters in seven innings.

Both teams came into Friday’s matchup red-hot as the Lumberjacks had won five straight and the Mohawks were riding a 10-game streak. Amsterdam’s offense stayed disciplined at the plate, drawing 11 walks and converting them into six runs.

Aiden Dill got the Mohawks on the board with an opposite field solo home run that snuck inside the left field foul pole. Amsterdam then loaded the bases for Andrew Ezell, who laced a two-RBI double over the third-base bag to extend the lead to 3-0.

Amsterdam doubled their lead as Zach Johnson, Taylor Belza, and Gabriel Rivera drew bases-loaded walks. Belza struck again in his next at-bat with an RBI single back up the middle.

The Lumberjacks continued to have trouble finding the strike zone, walking two more batters to make the score 11-0. Mason McCraine and Ezell’s RBI single helped the Mohawks continue to move station to station, extending the lead to 13-0. Amsterdam ended the game with a 15–0 victory, marking their seventh mercy-rule win of the season.

On Saturday, Amsterdam will travel to Little Falls, NY, to play Mohawk Valley. The Diamond Dawgs and Mohawks have split the first two games. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
