The Mohawks entered today's game 6 home runs shy of the team record of 46 set in 2019. They belted 5 today and now sit one behind the the team record after a 16-6 win over the Utica Blue Sox on Fireworks night at Rao Family Stadium.
Utica got on the board first as Connor Jones hit an RBI single in the first. Then in the Mohawks half of the inning, Taylor Belza got the party started with a 3-run home run.
The second saw the Blue Sox match the Mohawks with a 3-run inning of their own as Michael Flashner hit a sac-fly which was followed by a Kevin Francella RBI single and RJ Thomae drew a bases loaded walk as the Blue Sox drew even at four.
That comeback was short lived as Anthony DeCesare homered to make it 5-4 Mohawks in the bottom of the second.
The Mohawks got the fireworks started in the fourth inning. Robert Melo homered. That was followed by RBI singles by Tyler Figueroa and Jordan Perry who were then diven in by a Brandon McCraine home run to put Amsterdam up 13-4.
Utica got 2 back in the fifth on RBI singles by Boden Fernsler and Adrian Diaz to make it 13-6.
In the seventh, Amsterdam inched closer to the run rule as Jordan Perry singled and Anthony DeCesare scored off an error on the play to make it 14-6.
It the eighth Taylor Belza went deep for the second time in the game making it 15-6 and finally Andrew Ezell came off the bench and put delivered the walk-off single to score Chris McLaughlin and put an end to the game right there at a final score of 16-6.
Toby Peterson was credited with the win after 2 hitless innings out of the bullpen and improved to 2-0 as the Mohawks move to 21-4-1 on the season. Cameron Kobayashi took the loss as the Blue Sox fall to 10-13.
The Mohawks will now hit the road on Friday to take on the Oneonta Outlaws at 7:00 PM.
