Box Score

Trailing 4-3 in the ninth, Andrew Ezell came up with the bases loaded and delivered a go-ahead single which turned into a little league grand slam as a pair of errors lead to 4 runs scoring. In a game that the Mohawks trailed the entire time, they ended up winning by a score of 7-4 over the Oneonta Outlaws at Damaske Field on Friday night.

Early on it was the Nolan Stark show as he hit a first inning triple and scored on a Colton Penner groundout to give the Outlaws a 2-0 first inning lead.

Amsterdam got on the board in the second after Aiden Dill doubled and scored on a Mason McCrain single to cut the lead to 2-1.

Nolan Stark struck again in the third, this time with a 2-run single to make it 4-1, Oneonta.

After that it turned into a bullpen pitching duel. Andy Cai came out of the pen for the Mohawks and delivered 4 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits. On the other side, Zachary Rowe pitched 5 scoreless and was tapped for one unearned run in the eighth inning.

In that eighth, it was Tyler Correa who reached on a single, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a Robert Melo single to cut the Outlaws lead to 4-2.

The ninth inning everything changed. Evan Taylor walked and Brady Mills was hit by a pitch to set up James Haughton to hit an RBI single scoring Taylor. Chris McLaughlin pinch hit and was hit by the pitch to load the bases. After a pitching change and a strikeout, Andrew Ezell stepped in with the bases loaded. He dumped a single into right to score the tying and go-ahead runs. The ball got away from the right fielder allowing McLaughlin to score and then the cutoff throw got away allowing Ezell to score as the game suddenly swung into a 7-4 Mohawks lead.

Joey Gecewicz (1-0) was the winner after throwing a scoreless eighth inning an Bryson Treichel got this first save after throwing a scoreless ninth as the Mohawks moved to 22-4-1 on the season. Will Howard (0-1) took the loss as Oneonta fell to 8-14-1.
