Stallions Bats Wake Up Late, Handing Mohawks First Loss in 19 Games

The Stallions' offense was quiet through the first five innings, but in the sixth inning, Danny Suroweic launched an opposite-field three-run bomb. Saugerties followed with nine hits through the next two innings, leading to a 9-3 victory. The loss marks the Mohawks' first defeat since June 9, snapping their 10-game winning streak at Shuttleworth Park.

Stallions pitcher Angel Paulino got himself out of a jam with three straight strikeouts in the fourth inning, and the momentum started to shift over to the third-base dugout. The Mohawks scored just two runs over the last six innings and finished with 12 strikeouts, their highest total since May 30.

Amsterdam got things started in the first inning as Taylor Belza knocked in Andrew Ezell with an RBI groundout. Mohawks starting pitcher Saxon Roberts finished his first two innings of work with three strikeouts.

Carson Leitz matched Roberts pitch for pitch, surrendering just one run in his three innings on the mound. The Stallions gave themselves opportunities, but stranded a runner in scoring position each of the first four frames.

Saugerties finally came through with a hit with a runner in scoring position, as Michael Hanna singled up the middle on the 10th pitch of the at bat. Suroweic stunned a crowd of 1155 with a three-run home run to left field, giving the Stallions a 4-1 advantage.

With a runner at third base in the seventh inning, Mason McCraine forgot to cover first base, giving the Stallions a bases-loaded opportunity. Saugerties opened the floodgates with three straight RBI singles, extending the lead to 9-1.

Back-to-back two-out RBI doubles from Jordan Perry and Aiden Dill narrowed the lead to 9-3. McCoy Rothe delivered the final out for the Stallions as he pumped his fist, walking to the third base dugout.

The Stallions finished the night with 11 hits, 10 of which came in the final four innings. The loss marked the Mohawks' first defeat in their last 19 games and their lowest run total of the season.

Amsterdam will stay home to play a non-league game on Wednesday against the Troy Haymakers. The Haymakers are 9-7 in the Albany Twilight League. Game time is set for 6:35 P.M.
