Amsterdam swiped four stolen bases, including Aiden Dill breaking the Mohawks' stolen-base record. The stolen bases allowed the Mohawks to go 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Out of the 10 hole, James Haughton led the way with three opposite-field hits, including a solo home run.
Mohawk Valley grabbed a 1-0 lead early, as they played some small ball to drive in first baseman Connor Scanlan. Amsterdam struck back, putting up five runs in the bottom half of the second. Tyler Figeroua and Haughton each ripped two-run singles into the gap, and Andrew Ezell kept things going with another RBI single leading to a 5-1 Mohawks advantage.
Amsterdam capitalized on a Diamond Dawgs error when Anthony DeCesare smoked a double into the right field gap, making the score 7-1. The Diamond Dawgs cut into the five-run deficit in the fifth inning with a two-out RBI single from Aiden Streeter.
The Diamond Dawgs got the bases loaded with no outs in the following inning and were looking to get back in the game. Parker Aikens limited the damage to just one run, forcing Joe Crenshaw to ground out to first base.
The Mohawks put nine runs on the board in the seventh inning as pinch-hitter Mason McCraine and Haughton put the game out of reach with back-to-back home runs over the left field fence. In the same frame, Dill stole his 24th base, breaking the Mohawks' stolen base record.
Amsterdam hit their third home run of the inning as DeCesare teed off, hitting a long three home run into the starry night. Aikens finished off the game with three straight strikeouts for Amsterdam’s 13th mercy rule win of the season.
The Mohawks will play the second game of their back-to-back as they travel to East Field on Sunday to play the Glens Falls Dragons. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
